Zanesville - Michael Joseph Kline, 80 of Zanesville died at 11:30 A.M. Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at the Genesis Hospital ER following an extended illness.

He was born October 14, 1940 in Dayton, OH the son of Louis August Kline and Romaine (Donnelly) Kline.

Mike was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and a retired History Professor at Ohio University of Zanesville where he had taught for 47 years. He received his Bachelor's from University of Dayton; Masters Degree from Ohio University, Studied at Ohio State University, Newberry Library in Chicago and Sophia University in Tokyo. Mike was the founder of the first fraternity at the University of Dayton, was a member of the design review board in Zanesville and a member of the Civil War Round Table.

He is survived by his wife of almost 53 years, Stephanie (Cusick) Kline whom he married August 31, 1968; his children, Ruth Kline and Bob (wife, Molly Maguire) Kline; a sister, Phyllis Hickey; and his beloved cat Coaldust. Mike was preceded in death by his parents

Friends may call 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at the Bryan & Hardwick Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at the St. Nicholas Catholic Church with Rev. JCP Sullivan as celebrant. Burial will conclude at the Mt. Olive Cemetery at a later date.
